After 50 years, the Porsche 914 will only get better

In April of 1969, Volkswagen and Porsche announced that with a holding stock capital of 5 million deutsche marks, they established VW-Porsche-Vertriebsgesellschaft mbh, otherwise known as the VW-Porsche Sales Company. Then, at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September, they debuted a pair of VW-Porsche 914s.

I almost bought a 1973 2.0 914. Thought it was a fun car to drive. Drove it with the top off on a twisty road. Guy wanted $4000.00 for it. Wish I had bought it seeing values today.

I recently bought a 1974 914 that I am planning to convert to a 914 6 2.2 Liter with period correct parts. I probably have another year on building the engine, but it sure is a pleasure to drive with the 2 liter 4 cylinder. I bought to accompany my 70 911T and 71 Karmann Ghia

I had a 914 when I was overseas in the early 1970’s. Unfortunately, I found some black ice on a back road between Oxford and Birmingham and hit a telephone pole, which totaled it. I took the insurance money and bought a 2002 that I brought back to the States and then traded it in for the much maligned Mazda RX-4 in 1975. Two of the stupider things I did in my early 20’s…oh well, live and learn.

mine only set me back $400, but that was 14 years and $25k ago! ;D a well-sorted 914 is an absolute blast to drive and own.
