C7 Vette last front engine Vette?

#1

Is the 2018 Vette the last front engine Vette? And if so is it a collectible with some appreciation potential??

Hi Again @lquam2411,

Well, as Don Sherman wrote for us here: https://www.hagerty.com/articles-videos/articles/2018/01/12/mid-engine-corvette-coming it sure looks like the world is getting a mid-engined Corvette soon! If GM does indeed unveil it at the 2019 Detroit Auto Show I can only suspect it would be a 2020 model at the earliest, but the General has surprised us more than once before. And if this mid-engined car does happen it doesn’t necessarily mean the end for the front-engined Corvette as Don describes in the above article.

What this means for collectibility of the 2019 C7 will remain to be seen. With rare exceptions, such as the 2005-2006 Ford GT, it typically takes decades before an “instant collectible” truly becomes collectible, or not. I will say this, collectible or not, the new 2019 Corvette ZR1 is certainly a car I wouldn’t mind driving in the meantime!

Sincerely,

Colin Comer
