How to Adjust Sealed-Beam Headlights on Your Classic Car or Truck


In this Hagerty DIY, Kyle Smith walks you through the simple process of adjusting sealed-beam headlights on a Chevrolet C10 pickup truck. The process is universal, however, and all it takes is a Phillips screwdriver, a tape measure, some tape, and few minutes to ensure your classic car or truck is running right in the night.

The drivers headlight adjustment should be 2 degrees to the right and the passenger side headlight should be straight on. This adjustment prevents blinding of on-coming vehicles, I like to use 2" right of center on the target. When using mechanical adjusters you always use the adjustment of 2 degrees down and the right headlight of 2 degrees down. Jeep Parkhill, retired ASE Master Tech
