Mercedes-AMG Red Pig

Walking up to the Red Pig (aka die Röte Sau), you’d never guess it’s actually a replica of AMG’s first-ever race car, a 300SEL 6.3 that won its class and came second overall in the 1971 Spa Francorchamps 24 hours. How that original car came to be is almost as unbelievable.

This is a companion discussion topic for the original entry at https://www.hagerty.com/articles-videos/articles/2017/09/05/mercedes-benz-amg-red-pig-history-drive-review

Here is the red pig that I get to look at every day at work. Love the 6.3’s. Great article!!

What an odd piece of racing history - I need one of those in my office too!

Who makes this model and where can I find one? Thanks, Jim F.

Google Paul’s Metal Art Mini Champs. Here is the Wikipedia link to them https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minichamps

A buddy at work gave this to me. I am not sure where he bought it. It appears that you can likely find it on eBay.

Good luck.

Thanks Joe, I looked and looked online with no luck, I’ll take a peek @ your link and see what I can find. Very cool model car, doesn’t look like it’s going to be cheap!

PS. I grew up in Germany, mostly during my adolescent years during the 70’s and got hooked on the vintage. My folks had 3 W109/109’s sedans at various times, along with a W114/115 220D, dad’s first MB. Good memories of very fine cars - a still can’t believe how small they look today!

Thanks again, the search is on.
