The 2020 Cadillac XT6 fills a gaping hole in luxury brand’s lineup

The crossover market is hot as ever, particularly in America, where automakers are killing off traditional cars left and right. Cadillac is in need of fresh metal in its showroom, especially as the ATS, CTS, and CT6 are all being discontinued or replaced. One thing Cadillac has been missing for a long while is a three-row crossover. The new XT6 is poised to give Cadillac a more affordable option for three-row buyers who don’t need the full-on, body-on-frame, truck-derived Escalade, and it means GM will finally have a proper luxury three-row family hauler to compete with the Acura MDX, Lexus RX, and Infiniti QX60.

Another cookie-cutter SUV - how exciting! We will now have one more new transportation appliance on the road! Don’t lose the Cadillac emblem, or you will not know what brand you’re driving…

American luxury cars are at their best when their making loving tributes to the past or bold steps into the future. This vehicle does neither. It’s utterly forgettable. That’s not to say any other luxury brand has a more interesting vehicle for this segment. I wish the luxury brands would stop trying to compete in every segment and focus on just a few exciting and unique vehicles, and leave the practical family haulers to the mainstream brands.
