There’s a road-legal Porsche 917 in Monaco, courtesy of a “highly suspect” loophole

Who says race cars belong only on the track? Although it took a lot of jumping through legal hoops, one dedicated owner managed to register his Porsche 917 for road use in Monaco. Something tells us he won’t have trouble finding his car in the grocery store parking lot.

Given the 16 step process to starting a 917, I bet the owner isn’t running many errands with it.

Carl Thompson in California may have been the overall project lead of this rebuild, but he is NOT “Carl Thompson of Gunnar Racing”. Gunnar Racing is led by Kevin Jeannette of Florida, a respected restorer of the plastic-era Porsches…and I believe Carl may have subcontracted the brunt work to Kevin’s shop in Florida.
